Collegiate Athlete

September 2008 - June 2013

During my time at Cal Poly, I was a collegiate tennis player. Balancing tennis and school was challenging, but it was worthwhile at the end. Collegiate athletics taught me how to manage my time, be hard working, disciplined, and how to perform under a high stress environment. During my time, we reached a Division 1 team ranking of 36 and individually I reached a ranking of 20 in the country.

To end my collegiate career, I was chosen as Cal Poly's Athlete of the Year. Being recognized and honored by the school and my peers was a very humbling experience.

All-American
September 2008 – June 2013
 

During my senior year, I reached my goal of becoming an All-American. Only the top 20 best singles players in the country achieve this honor. I became the first Cal Poly tennis player to reach Division 1 All-American status in school history.

Industrial Technology

I studied Industrial Technology with a minor in Packaging. Industrial Technology encapsulated Cal Poly's unique “Learn by Doing” philosophy. I learned a vast number of skills such as product development, manufacturing, packaging design, 3D printing, and CAD software in a hands on environment. Not only did I have the opportunity to learn skills hands on, but I was also able to work with real companies and help them implement change within their business.

Senior Project
March 2013 – June 2013
 

The purpose of my senior project was helping Professor Keith Vorst on his on-going research on the effects of recycled polyethylene terephthalate, RPET, in consumer goods products such as water bottles. I had to create and test samples of RPET blended resin with virgin PET resin and compare the results. I then had to test the mechanical properties, such as tensile strength and hardness, and determine if there was an effect when the RPET resin was blended with the PET at different ratios.

Consulting for Bolt Motorcycle Hardware
January 2013 – March 2013
 

I was part of a student consulting team who helped Bolt Motorcycle Hardware decrease production cost by redesigning their packaging for their motorcycle parts kit. We worked with them and we estimated that our new packaging design would save them at least $25,000 a year. They eventually implemented our packaging design into production.
