September 2020 - July 2021

Fellow

Lod, Central District, Israel

I spent 9 months living in Lod, Israel, a struggling, mixed Jewish/Arab city in Israel's economic periphery. Here, I worked on numerous community projects, including a food access map, a hydroponics project, and advocacy work for a Palestinian feminist nonprofit. I also engaged in significant fundraising and rebuilding efforts after the 2021 Israel-Palestine crisis.

September 2020 - June 2021

I, along with two other fellows in my program, conducted a research project to develop a community map about food access in Lod. Lod, a deeply impoverished and divided city, has high rates of food insecurity, and no centralized system of food aid. We developed a community map focused on neighborhoods with the highest rates of food insecurity, and layered it with a map showing the various community organizations that provide food aid, then presented this map to city officials.

April 2020 - June 2021

Received a $7,500 grant for Na'am Arab Women in the Center, an Arab feminist organization in Lod/Lydda, to provide emergency aid to undocumented Palestinian women from the West Bank and Gaza who are fleeing domestic violence in Central Israel (within 1948 borders). Undocumented women residents of Israel are particularly vulnerable to femicide and violence, and are unable to access municipal services, such as police and welfare. This grant will provide lifesaving aid to these women.

Enrolled patients in more than 60 oncology and hematology studies, and managed regulatory components of those studies. This work included reviewing protocols, assessing patient medical records, monitoring clinical data for study compliance, and using electronic data capture systems.
