Tennis Instructor

Redwood City, CA, US

I began helping out Coach John Hubble as an instructor for his high performance junior tennis clinics. Clinics usually consist of about 12 junior players ranging from 10 years old to high school seniors. The challenge of having a large clinic is being able to focus on each player individually and helping them develop their game. I am able to use my 20 year tennis playing experience and guide junior players in the right direction.

Professional Tennis Player

After graduating college, I pursued a professional tennis career. With the success I had in college, it was my goal to try and prove my tennis ability globally. For over 2 years, I played professional tennis tournaments all over the world and I improved my singles ranking from 2200 in the world to my career high ranking of 426 in August 2015. I also improved my doubles ranking from 1800 to 488 in the world. Along the way I had to learn many different skills such as fundraising, developing sponsor relationships, and managing all of my travel.

Professional Singles Title

This was my third tournament title in a span of three months. I earned this title in Vancouver, Canada. Not only did I win the singles, but I also won the doubles title this week. This improved my ranking from 534 to my career high ranking of 426 in ATP World Tour Rankings.

Professional Singles Title

This was my second tournament title in less than a month. I used the confidence I gained from my first tournament title in Thailand to earn this title. I tournament won this tournament in Manzanillo, Mexico. I improved my ranking from 704 to 610 in the world.

Collegiate Athlete

September 2008 - June 2013 (4 Years, 10 Months)

During my time at Cal Poly, I was a collegiate tennis player. Balancing tennis and school was challenging, but it was worthwhile at the end. Collegiate athletics taught me how to manage my time, be hard working, disciplined, and how to perform under a high stress environment. During my time, we reached a Division 1 team ranking of 36 and individually I reached a ranking of 20 in the country.

Cal Poly Athlete of the Year

To end my collegiate career, I was chosen as Cal Poly's Athlete of the Year. Being recognized and honored by the school and my peers was a very humbling experience.

All-American

During my senior year, I reached my goal of becoming an All-American. Only the top 20 best singles players in the country achieve this honor. I became the first Cal Poly tennis player to reach Division 1 All-American status in school history.

Industrial Technology

September 2008 - June 2013 (4 Years, 10 Months)

I studied Industrial Technology with a minor in Packaging. Industrial Technology encapsulated Cal Poly's unique “Learn by Doing” philosophy. I learned a vast number of skills such as product development, manufacturing, packaging design, 3D printing, and CAD software in a hands on environment. Not only did I have the opportunity to learn skills hands on, but I was also able to work with real companies and help them implement change within their business.

Senior Project

The purpose of my senior project was helping Professor Keith Vorst on his on-going research on the effects of recycled polyethylene terephthalate, RPET, in consumer goods products such as water bottles. I had to create and test samples of RPET blended resin with virgin PET resin and compare the results. I then had to test the mechanical properties, such as tensile strength and hardness, and determine if there was an effect when the RPET resin was blended with the PET at different ratios.
